Projects - Aprons Sewing Academy

 
 

One of the self help groups created in Kawathewadi is of housewives who were trained in stitching clothes. Under a Master tailor, the women were taught to stitch aprons. They were paid on piece-rate basis, augmenting their meagreresource. The Aprons were initially sold to science students of SIES College of Arts, Science & Commerce and progressively extended to St.Xaviers College, Jai Hind College and Kirti College. Aprons of different sizes ranging from 34" to 40" are stitched. During May - July 2018, 491 aprons were stitched, 388 were sold and the self help group paid Rs. 31,915/-. 8 village housewives began a new journey in self empowerment. During 2019-2020, 979 aprons were stitched.

The infrastructure is being upgraded to stitch 5000 sprons a year and sell to various affiliated colleges. A vibrant sales network is being developed. This project that has brought a new dawn for the villagers received wide acclaim.
